Cllr. Caroline Gruen
Caroline has lived all her adult life in Leeds and is currently an elected City Councillor representing the ward of Bramley and Stanningley where she is Chair of the Local Accountability Board at Leeds West Academy. She graduated from the University of Leeds with B.Ed and M.Ed degrees. Her career background was in education, initially teaching in four Leeds Primary Schools before becoming Deputy Head at Blenheim Primary School.
She went on to education improvement roles in four local authorities including Head of Education Standards in Doncaster and Director of Education in Calderdale, and was a practising lead OFSTED inspector during this period. She first stood for election in 2011 following her retirement and has been a serving councillor for 11 years.
Caroline is passionate about creating learning opportunities for children and young people and is the Council’s Children’s Champion for the Inner West area of the city as well as sitting on the Corporate Parenting Board. In these roles, she works with children and young people to ensure they have an influence in the relevance and quality of youth provision in the area and visits children’s homes run by the council. She has made an influential contribution to the council’s Children and Families Scrutiny Board for over ten years. Caroline is a keen champion for visual and performing arts and literature, she attempts to keep fit, and loves to travel.
